I like how Sharkboy and Lavagirl is becoming a meme from that one scene in the movie but the whole movie is literally meme worthy you’re barely scraping the top of the memeburg my friends
”IT’S TRUE YALL I WATCHED THIS MOVIE YESTERDAY & IT CHANGED MY LIFE
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):
- an unnecessarily dramatic opening monologue which begins with “Sharkboy wasn’t always… half shark… half boy” and features the exact line: “She asked if I could go with them. I told her, “I have school tomorrow.” She gave me a sad look and flamed away.”
- ideological conflict between the mother (who says kids just need to grow up) and the father (who says kids need their dreams) which somehow is the root of their incompatibility ?? (not to worry, they get back together while mr electric comes down to earth from Planet Drool in the form of several tornadoes)
- the entirety of “Planet Drool” (where most of the “action” takes place) looks like it was rendered in kid pix
- lavagirl having random existential crises throughout the film – “Dream something about me! I want to find out who I am” “I destroy EVERYTHING I TOUCH” “Maybe I am evil… and I just need to accept it.” it’s amazing
- sharkboy a) descending into an athletic stance at literally every possible opportunity and b) being aggressively cynical about everything. seeing a 13 year old taylor lautner say the words “You thought you’d figure out a use for your power! Max thought his dreamworld would be a happy place! We’ve all been duped” is a sight to behold
- the references thrown into sharkboy’s dialogue to his own powers. “Dreams can defeat you. My instincts tell me so.” “They’re singing at a frequency my highly trained ears find…… highly DISTURBING!!!!” it’s amazing
- every other line is a pun. villain, hero, bystander, it doesn’t matter. rowing a banana split boat down a literal stream of consciousness? check. mr electric (the greatest villain of all time) saying something may come as a “shock” to you? check. lavagirl saying “this enflames me!”? check!!!
- this entire video. please watch it. taylor lautner singing an incredibly aggressive lullaby while doing unnecessary gymnastics is a life changing experience. it also features one of lavagirl’s existential crises (“dream about me next, max! I need to know who I am. Not just destruction, or a simple flame. Dream of me as something good.”) and mr electric’s “This may come as a shock to you.” it’s mindblowing
- linus (alias MINUS in his bad guy form…….. keep in mind these are fourth graders Ok) and max have a battle of the minds which is just…….. brain puns. max calls down a brainstorm. linus responds with a brainfreeze. max causes linus’ head to LITERALLY EXPLODE by saying………… brainfart.
- the film ends with max’s parents not getting a divorce and the school being saved by the ice princess who is also the 4th grade teacher’s daughter who ALSO has a crush on max and ALSO WAS THE ICE PRINCESS ON PLANET DROOL (??)
- all of the “a”s in the credits are shaped like shark fins.
