imagine a rosario vampire kind of setting, where a human winds up at a monster school. except the monsters all know they’re a human. maybe they’re part of a new “monster/human friendly relations” project. everyone is pretty cautious about causing an incident, so they’re treading lightly around the human. but the human doesn’t even bat an eye at the strange stuff that goes on, so the monster kids gradually become more relaxed around them.
here’s the thing. the human doesn’t actually realize they’re at a monster school. they’re basically the living embodiment of “staying in their lane”. they see strange monster things happening and they’re like “huh. well that’s none of my business” and just go about their day
so the monsters think the human knows what’s up and doesn’t care. the human thinks they’re at a weird but ultimately normal human school. then the human sees something so explicit that they can’t help but connect the dots, like a werewolf transforming right in front of them. the human screams, the werewolf yelps, everyone else starts screaming too. there’s lots of confusion all around.
eventually they all figure out what happened. then the human’s friends start quizzing them on how the hell they never noticed.
“the werewolves literally walk around with their ears and tails out.” “I thought they were just furries okay?!”
“but the vampires drink blood at lunch! only blood! they don’t eat!” “listen, even goths can be insecure about their weight. it’s not my business if they want to go on a weird tomato juice diet.” “I guess that explains why you hugged Travis and told him he was beautiful the way he is that one time.”
“there are fairies in our math class. they have wings.” “*shrug* theater kids are weird.”
“Ynolk’ku is the offspring of an eldritch abomination. the whispers of the dead follow xem wherever xe go. are you saying you never heard that?” “I figured it was just really loud creepy music playing from xer headphones.”
“centaurs. harpies. nagas.” “okay I know I already said furries, but really committed furries.”
“Cindy is a sasquatch and she’s covered in fur.” “who am I to tell a girl to shave?”
“the dryads wear clothes made out of living plants.” “aesthetic or death.”
ya know what I like abt the Bold Type??? and like sorry if someone else has said this but,, The fact that kat isn’t immediately like disgusted with herself for liking a girl, but we still see the weird struggle of it regardless. Like they showed that weird kinda cognitive dissonance stage of accepting your sexuality without kat falling into the shitty self hatred part of it that TV loves to use as a plot point all the damn time,, good shit good shit

Inspired by @omgericzimmermann‘s Halloween fic-a-thon for the Check Please fandom, I decided to make Valentine’s Day fic-a-thons in the spirit of the holiday and love in general for both Check Please and Shadowhunters. Here’s the SH one, with special thanks to the SH Heart and Soul Writers Network! ❤
To start are the prompts:
Feb. 1st – This World Inverted (set in that episode’s universe)
Feb. 2nd – Friend Love (friend dates, support, gifts, memories together throughout the centuries, etc.)
Feb. 3rd – Admissions/Confessions (didn’t mean to say i love you yet, explaining their partner is bad in bed, admitting feelings, etc.)
Feb. 4th – Shadow World Traditions/Customs (does the shadow world fo vday?, color meanings [green = heartbreak, gold = weddings, etc], do seelies have other love celebrations? vampires? warlocks? nephilim? werewolves? who knows!, etc.)
Feb. 5th – Aro/Ace Appreciation (being calm while everyone else freaks out about vday, intimacy without sex, coming out, etc.)
Feb. 6th – Everyone refusing to use ‘Valentine’s Day’ because of Morgenstern (the word, the day, people making up new name’s for it, etc.)
Feb. 7th – Plans Gone Wrong (ruined surprises, things not going as planned but ending up better, being one uped, burned dinner, etc.)
Feb. 8th – Past Valentine’s Days (immortals’ most memorable ones, first ones with SO, comparisons, etc.)
Feb. 9th – Anniversary (plans, traditional gifts and meanings, forgotten, etc.)
Feb. 10th – Familial Love (lightwood siblings, the frays + luke, lewis’, etc.)
Feb. 11th – Magic (love spells/potions, soulmate bonds, destiny, literal sparks from a kiss, etc.)
Feb. 12th – Alone on Valentine’s Day (single and bitter, left behind, ‘no one should be alone today’ queue netflix with friend(s), vday after a breakup, etc.)
Feb. 13th –
Everyday Moments (love in the little things, domestic fluff, details in caring for someone, etc.)
Feb. 14th – Free for all! (anything you want! fluff, smut, meet cute, soulmate AU, etc.)
Next, do the thing! Write/draw/whatever you please for the prompt related to Valentine’s Day or love. This can mean fluff, smut, ships, no ships, self-love, lack of love, breakups, getting back together, and so on! Pretty much whatever you want to make of it! You can do as many or as few of these prompts/days as you please. There are no length requirements.
Posting: On the day of your prompt, post it on either tumblr or on the AO3 collection (which you can join at any time to help give me an idea how many people we have) with the tag SH Love Fest and tag or @ me (achilleanragnor).
