best earthbender in the world: toph uses earthbending to counter powerful magic used by a spirit from another dimension

I firmly believe this is the GREATEST and most extensive display of Earthbending we have ever witnessed.

Depending how you see this scene, Toph is either resisting the interdimensional pull of a vortex Wan Shi Tong opened to transport this MASSIVE building or she is SINGLE-HANDEDLY holding the entire thing up from one of its SMALLEST TURRETS

Can you even fathom?

Literally no greater amount of Earth has ever been manipulated so solidly by an Earthbender on screen. Toph is holding the ENTIRE EDIFICE SECURELY IN PLACE WHILE ONLY TOUCHING THE TINIEST TIP OF IT. WHAT A POWERHOUSE!!!!

and that was with her not knowing how to properly ground herself in sand

um so also…I just realized how long she holds this thing in place????

not only is it long enough for Katara to escape Wan Shi Tong and play hide and seek with him

but also Sokka has enough time to run all the way back to the planetarium and chECK EVERY SINGLE DATE IN THE SEVERAL MONTHS BETWEEN THEN AND SOZIN’S COMET!?!?!?!?!

That’s like at least 60 or so days…and they give this little cutscene montage to show you how long it takes…

Toph is just up there effectively supporting the weight of a goddamn city???? from a tiny pillar of solid rock that she created in a sea of sand…FOR LIKE 20 MAYBE 30 MIN????

what OP bullshit is this…please recognize the Original Beifong like damn

largest amount of any element bent at once, no powerups necessary, and she holds that shit for half an hour?

But nobody’s talking about the worst part.

Even after all of this, she still feels like a failure because she couldn’t stop the sandbenders from taking Appa. She had to keep holding onto this building to keep it from falling straight into another dimension.

And after Aang got out and Toph tried to explain what had happened, he lashed out at her  I mean it’s understandable that he was upset but still.

Nobody thanked Toph for doing this. If anything, she left this scene feeling like a complete failure.

fieldbears:

Okay but to build on my previous space ideas – there is no good reason why aliens from different planets would all be similar sizes. Imagine 6″ tall aliens being in the general vicinity of lots of other alien worlds but never bothering to get spaceflight together to meet them bc they’d just get stepped on

But they still GalaxySkype with them all the time and do friendly knowledge transfers, and the Smols are very friendly and happy to upload info on all the unique flora on their homeworld

And some Larges discover that the Smols are having problems because there’s not much of some certain element on their planet and they’re running out and… “a lot” to them is so little, the Larges offer to send over like a storage pod’s worth and the Smols are like “:OOO WE CANNOT AFFORD”

The Larges would be like “no no it is okay, it is not much to us. It can maybe be written off on our Space Taxes? Do not worry about it”

And the Larges insist on sending the storage pod to a large flat area like half a day’s travel outside of the nearest Smol city because they are so worried that if they did their landing calculations wrong they will incite a small quake that will cause tiny buildings to topple

The Smols trek out and are overjoyed at the enormous metal box full of conveniently-small bars of metal. They empty it out and transform it into a multi-level museum dedicated to interplanetary unity and their special friends the Larges. They take and send pictures of tiny Smols in school groups wandering through the halls and learning about the nice space giants that made their prosthetic tentacles possible

adventures-in-theatre:

  • so you know how everyone has a story
  • you know
  • like the story
  • like if you’re at a party and someone turns to you and says, tell the story
  • and you know exactly what they mean
  • the story
  • well
  • i have a story
  • and not unlike most good stories, it involves three key components:
  • barack obama
  • pre-2008 reebok sneakers
  • and the absolute earth-shattering horror you can only feel after making the worst mistake of your life
  • so here we go
  • it all began eight years ago
  • (i was a gangly child then)
  • and barack obama came to town
  • (when i was a young girl)
  • (my father took me out into the city)
  • (to see the president of the united states, obama)
  • (barack obama)
  • except it wasn’t the city but where my parents worked
  • and my mother was hired to take pictures of obama shaking the hands of others
  • (rich people)
  • (ceo’s)
  • (people who didn’t wear reeboks to meet the president)
  • so i skipped school to see obama
  • (naturally)
  • (but my teacher was a republican so it still counted as an absence)
  • and the adventure begun
  • but as i soon learned
  • most of the adventure was waiting in a large room with my mother and some secret service men for roughly eight hours
  • because there is no timing with obama
  • (barack obama)
  • no one can know when obama is supposed to be there
  • (barack obama)
  • there is no, like, obama warning system
  • (barack)
  • it’s just that one second he’s not there
  • and the next second
  • he’s there
  • (barack obama)
  • so it was eight hours
  • and i remember nothing from those eight hours except for when one of the secret service men tried to talk to me
  • ‘how are your studies,’ he said
  • how’s school, he probably meant
  • but i didn’t understand at the time
  • i was a gangly child
  • i was scared
  • he was tall
  • (i cried)
  • and then all of a sudden
  • (about eight hours into the eight hours)
  • he was there
  • (barack obama)
  • he was beauty
  • he was grace
  • he was
  • (barack obama)
  • he walked into the room
  • he wasn’t wearing reeboks
  • (i noticed)
  • (i began to feel i’d made a mistake)
  • my mother took pictures of him shaking the hands of others
  • (rich people)
  • (ceo’s)
  • (none of whom were wearing reeboks)
  • and at the very end
  • obama began to leave
  • (barack obama)
  • i was happy enough to have graced his presence
  • but my parents
  • my parents were not happy
  • they needed more
  • ‘mr. obama,’ they called
  • and they pointed to me
  • ‘of course,’ obama said
  • (barack obama)
  • he’s so nice, i thought
  • and then it hit me
  • oh no, i thought
  • oh yes, my parents thought at some point, probably
  • i’m obama, obama thought, most likely
  • i was going to meet obama
  • up close and personal
  • obama
  • (barack obama)
  • the rest was a blur
  • and the next thing i knew i was there
  • with obama
  • (barack obama)
  • his hand was shaking my hand
  • his hand was on my hand
  • (nothing had ever felt so right)
  • ‘so what’s you’re name,’ he asked
  • (with obama’s voice)
  • (because he was obama)
  • (barack obama)
  • and i almost forgot but i told him
  • and he said it correctly even though it’s weird
  • (obama said my name)
  • and we were off to a good start
  • how was i to know
  • how was i to know the horrors to come
  • ‘so how old are you,’ he asked then
  • and that’s when this dream became a nightmare
  • ‘twelve,’ i said
  • a seemingly innocent answer
  • but here’s the thing
  • i was
  • thirteen.
  • (thirteen)
  • (13)
  • (12+1)
  • (16-3)
  • (13.0)
  • (Thirteen.)
  • what have i done, i thought
  • (panic! at the election)
  • i still don’t know why i did it
  • did i really forget?
  • did i do it for the thrill of the chase?
  • to see if i could?
  • maybe
  • but obama didn’t know
  • i did it, i thought, i lied
  • i lied to the president of the united states
  • i pulled it off
  • the greatest lie in history
  • the greatest heist
  • (i didn’t know what a heist was)
  • (i was thirteen)
  • ‘oh so you’re in 6th grade then,’ obama said
  • shit.
  • i was so close
  • shit what do i say, i thought
  • the journey is not over
  • the nightmare rages on
  • what do i say
  • i open my mouth to say, yes
  • ‘no,’ i say
  • what the fuck, i think
  • ‘no i’m in 7th grade”
  • (because i was)
  • maybe he won’t know, i thought
  • but he did.
  • (obama’s been around the block)
  • (obama knows what’s up)
  • ‘so you’re ahead of your class, then’ he said
  • (i wasn’t)
  • (i failed basic math at least twice by this time)
  • ‘yes,’ i said, just wanting this nightmare to be over
  • just wanting the lie to end
  • for obama to call me out on my shit and arrest me
  • to spend the rest of my youth locked away in prison where i couldn’t hurt anyone any more with my lies
  • i waited
  • i waited for arrest
  • but arrest didn’t come
  • and that was even worse.
  • obama trusted me
  • obama thought i was a good kid
  • obama thought i was ahead of my class
  • (ahead of my class)
  • i let him down
  • i let obama down
  • (barack obama)
  • i watched him leave
  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYNH1baA_7k
  • obama, i mouthed out after him
  • obama i’m sorry
  • (he trusted me)
  • why did i do it, you ask
  • i don’t know
  • after all these years
  • i still don’t know
  • it still haunts me
  • i still wake up at night, shaking, and i think
  • i lied to the president of the united states
  • (twice)
  • the photographic evidence of my nightmare hangs in my father’s office
  • i’m smiling through my pain
  • i’m wearing reeboks
  • obama is not
  • (barack obama)
  • i hope that someday, after obama’s retirement
  • we can put this all behind us and start anew
  • start fresh
  • (no more lies)
  • (no more deceit)
  • but i’m not naive
  • i know that we can never really go back
  • back to the way things were
  • five seconds after i met him but five seconds before i lied
  • but i can dream
  • i can hope
  • obama
  • obama i’m sorry
  • (barack obama)

i don’t know why people are having such doubts about whether the spongebob musical could be any good when other popular musicals are about

•a malevolent plant from space who eats people

•a relatively obscure failed french rebellion that
had a 1400 page novel written about it

•drag queen boot factory

•child laborers going on strike to receive slightly better pay and then going immediately back to a life of child labor (but with lots of dancing)

•mormons doing a terrible job of spreading their religion

•don’t have sex, because you WILL get pregnant and die: german farmchildren remix

•the life of the first american treasury secretary

•racist puppets

•trying to upstage shakespeare with a musical about eggs

•a barber who kills people and gives the bodies to a baker to make into pie

•the wicked witch of the west’s backstory

•fucking shrek

•a town that needs to pee

•I’m Sondheim And I Did Edgy Fairy Tales Before The Studios Did

•literally whatever Rocky Horror is

feel free to continue this list i love musicals but they’re insane

stimmyabby:

I have access to speech at least 85% of the time, but that doesn’t mean that during those times I am as verbal as a person without autism. Here are some examples of having access to speech while having speech trouble:

I have access to automatic speech, but not conscious speech.

For example I might see a dog and say, “Puppy!”, but by the time I’ve gone through I want to pat the dog, to pat the dog you have to ask the owner, the owner is over there, I should say please, I want to say to the person over there “Can I pet your dog please?” I can’t figure out how to get the words to come out of my mouth.

I have access to prompted speech, but not unprompted speech.

For example, if you ask me what book I am reading, I might be able to tell you it’s Bridge to Terabithia, and it’s good, but if I see you sitting across the room and want to tell you what I’m reading about I will not be able to initiate the conversation.

I have access to planned out speech, but not spontaneous speech.

I have to memorize what I’m going to say and how my mouth is going to move to say it, before I say it.

I have access to speech but it’s mentally exhausting.

OR

I have access to speech but it’s physically exhausting.

OR

I have access to speech but it’s physically painful.

OR

I have access to speech but I have to attempt talking many times before the words actually come out of my mouth.

I have access to speech, but only scripted speech.

This can be because I don’t have access to new words, or because I don’t have time to create new words and log them and run them through filters (not even necessarily filters of “is this polite” but filters of “is this actually true”) while carrying on a conversation, or because other people’s words are more comfortable then my own.

Most of what I say is a patchwork quilt of scripts pulled out of the scrap bag of my brain and hemmed together, actually.

Scripted speech isn’t necessarily bad or noncommunicative, and there are different levels of scriptedness from “kneejerk response” (“How are you? Fine”) to “looking for scripts that fit what I’m trying to say and splicing them together”. (I sometimes create scripts in advance specially for specific conversations with specific people. That is definitely not noncommunicative.)

I have access to speech, but not the words I want to say.

“Make no because the thing is curtaining” I say, unable to do grammar entirely, hoping someone will turn off the light. When I looked for pictures of light in my brain, I found a picture of light filtering through curtains, and “make no” means “make not exist”. Communicative, but damn hard to understand.

A side note: it is cruel to make someone in this state use proper grammar or polite phrasing before you acknowledge what they have said.

I have access to speech, but not communication.

This can contain some or none of things above, and it’s hard to talk well about. What I can say is:

-A lot of it was taught to me by therapy

-For a long time, and still now sometimes, people labled uncommunication as real communication and real communication as uncommunication

-Just because someone does things that look communicative that aren’t, doesn’t mean they don’t do things that are communicative, and doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to figure out how they communicate, and listen.
