We’re coming for you whether the Muggles like it or not, you can’t miss the World Cup, only Mum and Dad reckon it’s better if we pretend to ask their permission first. If they say yes, send Pig back with your answer pronto, and we’ll come and get you at five o’clock on Sunday. If they say no, send Pig back pronto and we’ll come and get you at five o’clock on Sunday anyway.
Never, ever doubt that Ronald Bilius Weasley is the best friend anyone could possibly wish for. (via braveremus)
I don’t even know. It’s from a book about languages my friend’s been reading. (it’s creepy that I can understand it …)
It was actually invented with that purpose: anyone who spoke any European language should be able to understand esperanto. It was meant to be a lingua franca.
STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING Y’ALL AND TELL ME IF YOU UNDERSTAND THIS
I,understand about a half of it, I speak some dutch
“What Happened? Did your computer catch a virus? Did you suddenly develop BSE [mad cow disease]?”
Between German, English, Latin, a bit of French, Dutch, Spanish and Italian that was actually pretty readable to me.
I speak English and a very little spanish, and I can read it.
… I understood this pretty much completely. i hadn’t realized i could learn esperanto so easily at this point.
While I love created languages, the language in the picture is Europanto, but much of the commentary is about Esperanto. These are not the same language, although they were created for similar purposes, and the creator of Europanto intentionally modeled the name of the language after Esperanto. Europanto fizzled out a little, but Esperanto is still going strong! Esperanto looks a little different- I typed a familiar sentence into Google Translate and this is the Esperanto output:
Sinjoro kaj sinjorino Dursley de numero kvar, Privet Drive, estis fieraj diri, ke ili estas perfekte normalaj, dankon multe.
A little harder to read to the untrained eye than Europanto!
In Gotham Adventures #35, Bruce is made part of a jury for the court case of a man that was apprehended by Batman.
And he just fuckin. He Does That
What seems to keep his cover isn’t secrecy (though there’s plenty of it), but instead just how absolutely outrageous the idea is. Bruce Wayne??Batman??? Puh-lease. I mean, have you seen the guy? Sure he’s a nice guy, but he’s far too busy having people run WE for him and going on pleasure cruises to be Batman. I mean, really.
(Good thing nobody notices the cool symbolic silhouette deal he’s got going on there.) It’s likely become something akin to the ‘Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer’ joke, (check out this post) and Bruce often just feeds it, making it even easier to get away with. It’s fucking hilarious.
I swear Bruce gets away with it because everyone assumes he’s Gotham’s answer to Bobby Newport. Imagine Bobby Newport as Batman. And you kind of get it.
Why does nobody ever talk about how weird Maryland is?
Nobody ever talks about Maryland, period. It’s like they forget it’s a state. There’s no real stereotypes about people from Maryland, because it’s right in the middle of the east coast, EXCEPT everyone from Maryland is obsessed with crabs and Old Bay seasoning. You may think I’m exaggerating, but my friend’s brother used to actually drink Old Bay straight. The only time I ever saw my boyfriend look at me with anything other than pure love and respect was when I said that I thought crabs served in the shell were overrated. McDonalds in Maryland serves Filet-o-Fish WITH OLD BAY SEASONING. Once I saw a production of The Little Mermaid in Maryland, and the actor playing the chef sang “now some Old Bay!” instead of “now some flour,” and the audience burst into rapturous applause in the middle of the song. Old Bay is as essential to Marylanders as flour.
The official state sport of Maryland is jousting. No joke.
And once, I went to a McDonalds’ down the road from Camp David while George W. Bush was staying there, and there were free-range chickens who lived in the parking lot. It made me uncomfortable.
Edgar Allan Poe, John Waters, Frank Zappa, and F. Scott Fitzgerald are all from Maryland. Oh, and John Wilkes Booth. Something weird is in the water there. My money’s on Old Bay.
For real. No one knows what to do with us; we are the confusing bisexual state of the country. The south thinks we’re northern and the north thinks we’re southern. We had martial law imposed on us and habeas corpus suspended during the Civil War to keep our geographically-significant ass parked in one spot.
Did you hear about our state tree? The Wye Oak was over 400 years old, blew over in a storm, and so we took the pieces and used them for building a desk for the governor and for aging beer. And then we cloned the damn thing so we could have it back again.
Our state song is a poem about a massacre in Baltimore set to the tune of Oh Christmas Tree.
Our flag is based off English heraldry and we love it just slightly less than we love Old Bay.
And we gave David Hasselhoff to the world. You’re welcome.
