I wrote about some of the issues I have with the way the Duffer Brothers write women in Stranger Things,
“Imagine an Eleven that doesn’t care she has a shaved head because hey
guess what she’s not locked in a lab and she’s safe. Imagine an Eleven
who has never met a girl her own age before so she’s excited when she
meets one for the first time and she’s a cool skate-boarding chick and
Eleven’s never skated before so she wants to learn. Imagine an Eleven
curious to learn how big the world really is. Eleven’s character growth
could be so much stronger if the Duffer Brothers weren’t so caught up in
their simplistic problematic understanding of femininity and womanhood.”
