Fandom pairing: Romione / AU: Revolutionary War 👀😁

I hate you for this. How do I do this. HP is British. How. 
(Please excuse any historical mistakes in this, I am from neither country and my only revolutionary war knowledge is from Hamilton, omg this is ridiculous)  

1. Ok, let’s pretend for this fic that the Weasley’s are British. They are poor, they have seven kids to feed, oldest brother Bill has to get a ‘good’ job in order to bring money to the family (probably a lawer or something?) but most of the other Weasley sons join the army and can currently be found fighting the colonies across the sea. As the youngest son, Ron feels like he’s gonna amount to nothing. He’s terrified of joining the army. But he does anyway, because he feels like it’s his duty, and he wants to live up to his brothers, protect his family. 

2. Across the sea is the wealthy Granger family. Miss Hermione is an only child and a girl, but with rich parents she can afford to spend most of her days fighting for women’s rights and freedom instead of getting married off. The revolution is here and she believes in the new world it may bring. She has a close friend, Mr Harry Potter, whom she has known since they were a child and is a soldier. 

3. Look, Ron is not exactly cut out for war (shh-BOOM GOES THE CANON) so he is sent to be a spy on the American soldiers. Fake an accent, dress in their uniform and ta-da, instant uncover! Genius. Ron is a little shaken, but takes to the mission with blind determination. He will succeed. He’ll make his family proud. He’ll be brave. 

He meets Harry on the American side. He becomes a close friend, a good friend, and one night he asks Ron, “You are coming to the ball, right?” 

4. 1780, A WINTER’S BALL AND THE GRAAAANGER SISTERS ARE THE EVNY OF ALL – ok, so maybe Hermione doesn’t have any sisters in this au, but she’s there all right. And maybe every single man wants to marry her. But she sees Ron from across the room and her heart goes bOOM (well, maybe she was just curious about who this new soldier was, but not the point). She asks if Harry knows him and he immediately goes over, grabbing his arm and dragging Ron across the ballroom. 
“Where are you taking me?” Ron splutters. 
“I’m about to change your life,” Harry grins. 
(Is Harry Angelica here? Is Harry also secretly in love with Ron??? WHO KNOWS) 

5. Harry introduces Ron to Hermione. They initally dance rather awkwardly, but then they talk. And while they clash on some things (a lot of things) he’s got a kind of charm. He’s nothing like the other soldiers who boast about their kills and their bravery in battle, he’s nervous and modest, but still manages to challenge her somehow. During a moment Ron is pulled away to talk to General McGonagall (look, i was gonna say Dumbledore, but lets face it, McGonagall is the real general here) Hermione reaches out to Harry and whispers, 

“That boy is mine.”
