I can’t believe I have to say this

It is NOT ok to create fanfictions/ headcanons/ other types of fan content about the Orlando Shooting. It is rude and disrespectful.

I mean as long as you’re using fic not to romanticize tragedy but instead process grief, I don’t see what’s wrong with it.
If you’re writing Orlando inspired fic ask yourself whether or not you’re describing the incident itself, placing characters in the traumatic event for the sake of drama, OR are you describing he aftermath only to show how characters you care about feel and react and mourn the same way you do?
One relives the trauma;
The other grieves and processes it.
One is written by an outside spectator;
The other is written by someone within the lgbtqa community.
One entertains through shock value;
The other ignores shock (we’ve been through enough already) and focuses on small moments of healing.

I agree. Fanfiction, fanart, etc are art. There are many reasons people make art. One is to process difficult emotions. Another is to be exploitative and sensational. As long as you’re doing the former, not the latter, I don’t see a problem.
